E74 is a general hardware error on Xbox 360 indicated by a single red flashing light in the Xbox Ring of Light and an error message descriptive on the television. The E74 error is linked to the graphics hardware. There is high opening it's a scaler chip problem (the "Ana" or "Hana" chip near the Av cable connection) it can also be caused by a faulty Av cable so check that first.

When the scaler chip becomes overheated it doesn't make touch with the motherboard anymore. That is why you get the horizontal greens lines on your screen or even worse The E 74 Error. It can also be cause by an overheated Gpu Chip.

How To Fix E74 Error

Ok, I'll try to expound this the best I can. You will have to open your Xbox 360. (Warning! ...Opening Your Console Will Void Your Warranty) Next tape about 10 pennies in a stack using electrical tape. Take off the Dvd drive and the fan shroud.

The scaler chip is placed above the Gpu heat sink. The Gpu heat sink will be the flat one on the left. The scaler chip is square and black. It is the one placed next to the left fan. Unplug the cooling fans and let your Xbox 360 overheat until you get 2 flashing red lights.

Turn your console off and let it cool for about 20 minutes...its literally hot at this point. This was done to re- solder the joints without having to Take off the motherboard and use a heat gun...saving us time! When the Xbox 360 is cool reconnect the fans and place the stack of taped pennies on top on the scaler chip. Install the fan shroud and reconnect the fans.

Install the Dvd drive and place about 7 Cdr's on top on on of it. This will make sure that the stack of pennies remain on top of the scaler chip. Install the top cover of the Xbox 360 and test it out.

This should work as it worked for me. I hope I was of some help. Happy Gaming!

It's a good thing that many parts are standardized and interchangeable. You may be able to pick up many of them at a colse to hardware store. Standardized parts consist of screws, bolts, nuts, fuses, wire, cords, connectors, etc. Manufacturers use standardized parts not to make repairs easier for you, but to keep their manufacturing costs down. They can then buy millions of a exact screw at a fraction of a penny each.

Some parts are unique to the product. It may be because the builder couldn't find a low-cost standardized part--or because the builder wants to angle the shop on change parts. You must buy change ink cartridges from the builder if you want to be sure you're getting one that fits. Coffee machines, for example, often have change pots that are nearly as costly as the new machine. Even car manufacturers know that the change parts shop is profitable--if they use unique parts.

Some parts are relatively expensive, such as motors and controllers, costing half or more of the price of a new appliance. In some cases, the cost is because the parts are unique and fit only a diminutive number of models. In most cases, however, they are costly because they are complex--and primary to operation. You won't find a change motor for your hair dryer at the hardware store. And if you do find one through the manufacturer's service department, it may cost nearly as much as a new hair dryer.

Some parts are designed not to be replaced. They are sealed or otherwise installed so you can't replace individual parts. That's okay for things like circuit boards because you're not going to replace components on them. You'll naturally pull the errant circuit board and setup the replacement. However, some gadgets, such as cellular telephones, are difficult to even open (except the battery compartment); internal parts are not intended to be supplanted by the owner. But even on an item like a cell phone, you can do a few things to fix or at least increase the life of the item.

Where can you get parts when you need them? Most local hardware stores carry numerous change parts. You can also check with the manufacturer. And internet sites offer millions of change parts for thousands of items. naturally use one of the quest engines (Google, Yahoo) to find dozens of sources for nearly any part for anyone artificial in the last 30 years.

What can you do if the bad component is soldered? Soldering is naturally attaching two objects together with a metal alloy, called solder, that melts at relatively low temperature, then hardens into a metal joint. The type of solder used depends on the job: joining copper pipe, electronic parts, or other components. Some solders wish a cleaning agent first, called a flux. Other solders have the flux combined with the solder.

To take off a soldered part, first select a soldering tool (iron, gun), solder, flux, and other tools based on the job you want to do. Read the instructions that come with the soldering tool. Typically that means heating the work (pipe, electrical connection, etc.) with the soldering tool, then touching the solder wire to the work (not the soldering tool) until the solder melts to form a union.

By doing a diminutive explore and seeing the change part you need you can not only give new life to old things, you also can save money and minimize waste. Best of all, you can brag "I fixed it myself!"
